미국에 거주하며 활동 중인 작가 최상아의 한국에서의 첫 개인전으로, "켜-Layering" 전시는 드로잉과 팝업(pop-up)의 종이작업들로 구성되었다. 이 작업들은 모두 방법이나 결과면에서 ‘Layering’이라는 접근방식을 보여준다. ‘Layering’은 작가가 미국에 살면서 겪었던 정체성을 표현할 수 있는 중요한 기법임과 동시에, 사고하는 방식이기도 하다. 이러한 작업은 동서양 문화의 경험과 사고를 함께 소화하는 과정이며 그것들은 하나의 레이어가 아닌 여러 층위의 겹으로 존재한다. 여러 겹으로 쌓인 종이와 중첩된 이미지들은 작가가 경험한 현대 소비문화 속의 인간의 모습을 반영한다.

Sang Ah CHOI, artist working and living in USA, composed a series of drawings and pop-up paper works in her first solo show "Layering" in Korea. These pieces show a 'layering' process both in its method and its result. 'Layering' is an essential working method which expresses the identity issue of the artist living in USA and also a thinking method for the artist. This is a way to process her eastern-western cultural experiences and her reflection upon it. They exist not as just one layer but several. The superimposed layered images on paper reflect today's portrait of people in the culture of consumption.
