인간의 시각적 환경을 조성하고 있는 색상, 숫자, 문자, 도형과 같은 문화적 기호의 의미를 변화시키는 작업의 일환으로 작가는 이 전시에서 딩벳(Dingbat) 폰트를 회화적 언어로 도입하였다. 딩벳 폰트는 알파벳이나 한글로 되어있는 일반적인 문자 폰트가 아닌 간단한 이미지 또는 기호가 문자를 대신하는 폰트로써, 장식적인 부호의 기능을 수행해왔다. 그러나 아이콘 문화에 익숙한 디지털 세대들에게 딩벳폰트는 언어의 제약과 장벽을 넘어 메시지를 전달하는 새로운 커뮤니케이션 수단이다. 시대와 장소, 사용자의 의도, 또는 상황에 따라 다양하게 해석될 수 있는 기호적 이미지가 화면에 조합·병치됨으로써 기표(signifier)와 기의(signified)의 관계가 자의적으로 형성되는 현대 시각문화의 한 단면을 보여주었다.

Mee Na PARK transforms meanings of cultural codes such as color, number, character, diagrams which compose our visual environment. In the exhibition ‘Home Sweet Home’, she introduced Dingbat font as a pictorial language. Dingbat font replaces general letter fonts for alphabet or Korean characters by simple images or symbols. It has been used as a decorative function. However, for digital generation people used to iconic culture, Dingbat font can be a new way of communication delivering international messages beyond the restriction caused by language difference. The pictorial symbols are open to free interpretation according to the age, location, users’ intention or situations. The artist associated and juxtaposed these symbols on the surface. The exhibition featured the aspect of today’s visual culture in which the relation between ‘signifier’ and ‘signified’ are freely created.
