이번 전시는 문지하와 염성순의 작품에 등장하는 이질적인 회화적 요소와 그 접근방식을 대비해 봄으로써 회화의 본질을 환기시켜보려는 의도로 기획되었다. 두 작가는 지금까지의 회화의 역사가 구분지어 온 대립적 요소들이 한 작품 속에서 융합될 수 있는 ‘혼융’의 장을 마련함으로써 모든 제약과 경계를 뛰어 넘는, 상상력이라는 회화의 근원적 힘을 보여준다. 이분법적인 시각으로 구분되어 왔던 대상과 비대상, 감성과 이성, 선과 색, 의식과 무의식, 꿈과 현실, 드로잉과 페인팅, 형식과 내용, 동서양의 회화적 개념과 구도 등 이 모든 이중적 요소들이 공존하는 두 작가의 화면은 시각적 형상을 초월하여 심리적인 신비로움을 불러일으킨다. 이러한 경계선을 자연스럽게 무너뜨리는 두 작가의 회화적 역량은 그 사이를 노닐면서 완전한 자유로움을 추구하는 정신에서 발견된다.

This exhibition is planned in order to awake the true nature of a painting through the works by Jiha Moon and SungSoon Youm by putting their heterogeneous painting elements and approaches in comparison. These two artists provide a field of ‘fusion’ where the heterogeneous elements, till now considered separately in the history of art, are merged in one painting. Through this approach, they express ‘imagination’, the essential force of a painting going beyond every limitation and boundary. In both works, the double elements such as object and non-object, emotion and reason, line and color, consciousness and unconsciousness, dream and reality, drawing and painting, format and contents, eastern and western concepts and composition coexist in one surface bringing up a psychological and mysterious atmosphere. Two artists’ painterly capacity of breaking this boundary in the most natural way can be found in their spirit in pursuit of total freedom strolling over in between.
